Why Do Bernedoodle Prices Vary So Much?

Bernedoodle prices run from a little over a thousand dollars to several thousand. A few things explain most of the difference:

• Size. Mini and micro Bernedoodles often cost more than standards, because breeding small dogs takes more generations and smaller litters. Mini Bernedoodles.
• Generation and coat. F1b and multigen puppies bred for a low-shedding coat are often priced higher than F1s. F1, F1b and multigen.
• Color. Some breeders charge more for tri-color or merle. Color tells you nothing about health or temperament. Bernedoodle colors.
• Health testing of the parents. Hips, elbows, eyes and DNA panels on both parents cost the breeder money and are worth paying for. Bernedoodle health problems.
• What is included. Vet checks, vaccinations, a microchip, a contract and a health guarantee all differ from one breeder to the next. Compare like with like.
• Travel. The cost of getting a puppy to you is part of the real total, so ask for it up front.

What Does a Bernedoodle Cost to Keep?

The coat is the big running cost: brushing at home and a professional groom every six to eight weeks or so, which costs more for a standard than a mini. Add food (a standard eats far more than a mini), routine vet care and boosters, a crate, a harness and lead, toys and treats, training classes, and pet insurance if you want it.
